When a 12-year-old girl returned from a visit with her father Sunday, she had news for her mother: They had been using a shooting range in her father's basement. The girl, who is almost 13, had a soda can that had bullet holes in it and photographs.
The mother was not happy with her ex-husband and called Norwalk police. James Licari, 44, said he had been using his basement as a shooting range for years, according to the police report. He said it was a safe environment, and he fired the bullets into a metal box.
Police confiscated a Remington shot gun, a .22-caliber Sig Sauer pistol and an Ithaca rifle. All were legally registered.
Licari was charged with reckless endangerment, unlawful discharge of a firearm and injury risk/impairing morals. Bond was set at $1,000. He gave his address as 100 Main Ave., but Sgt. Lisa Cotto did not believe that was where the shooting took place.

A car struck a bicycle at 7:32 p.m. Sunday in front of Shop Rite at 360 Connecticut Ave. The bicyclist was taken to Norwalk Hospital with abrasions to the forehead.
The driver said there had been a green light and the bicyclist, who was going west on Connecticut Avenue, traveled in front of him. A witness corroborated the account, police said. Bicyclist John Pogyo, 20, was given a citation for failure to obey a traffic control signal.
A woman left her car unlocked when she went into Stew Leonard's on Sunday morning. When she came out at about noon, her Toshiba laptop was gone, according to a police report. Police did not have any suspects.
