Air Quality Alert Issued by State

An air quality alert has been issued by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental. It is in effect for Southern Fairfield County as well as Southern Middlesex, Southern New Haven and Southern New London counties until 10 p.m. Sunday.

An air quality action day means that ground level ozone within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards.

According to the state, this brings a greater likelihood of respiratory symptoms and breathing difficulty in active children and adults and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma, as well as possible respiratory effects in the general population.

The weather Sunday was sunny and hot, with highs in the upper 80s. An overnight low of 68 degrees is forecast. Monday calls for scattered strong thunderstorms in the afternoon, possibly with large hail and strong winds. The high is forecast at 89 degrees with a 50 percent chance of rain.
