You'll Love These Leftovers

Sure, the latest Louis Vuitton bag would be the envy of all your friends - but how many of your fashion-forward pals can say their purse is from the estate of Audrey Hepburn? This past weekend, high-end consignment sale "Leftover Luxuries" wowed Westport with treasures from furniture and lighting to clothes and accessories, most of them barely (if ever) used.

"So many of our items come from people like interior designers who are just switching up rooms," says Hannah Lissette, who runs the Connecticut sales (Leftover Luxuries hosts events across the country). "There's nothing wrong with the pieces. Often they're brand new." She points to an enormous chandelier, the glass still wrapped in foam. "The woman who owned this never even hung it," she says. "She ordered it and her ceilings ended up being too low."

Lissette couldn't believe the amount of merchandise locals were willing to part with - or the fact that so much of it got snapped up right away. The way Leftover Luxuries works, sellers have access to an exclusive pre-sale. Lissette suspects this "first-dibs" policy is half the reason why many of her consigners put belongings up for sale in the first place.

"We sold so much in the pre-sale we had to call more stuff in," she says. There was no lack of stuff in the old retail location of Waterworks on Main Street on the sale's last day, all of it at 50% to 70% off retail price.

The experience has been an interesting intro to Westport for Lissette, who moved to the area from NYC only one year ago with her family. The mother of two was a trader for 10 years before her children were born. "I don't really know that many people around here yet," she says. Want to introduce yourself? Lissette will be accepting consignments for the next Westport sale, to be held in September, starting next month. For more info, go to www.leftoverluxuries.com or email Hannah@leftoverluxuries.com.
