A lot of people think of Mr. Handyman as their go-to source for home repair, and that's a good thing. But Lorenzo Wyatt, co-owner of the Mr. Handyman franchise for Fairfield County, wants people to think of his company when it comes to home improvement, too.
Wyatt calls it "building performance," focusing on making a home more energy efficient, something that's becoming increasingly important with each rise in the price of fuel.
"It's a fundamental aspect of your home, and it's economics," he says. "How much you spend on energy determines how much you have left for the other expenditures in your life."
To make sure your home is functioning at peak efficiency, Mr. Handyman does a deep diagnostic of all its functions. "We have the capability to correct any problems and make any necessary modifications," he says.
"There's been a lot of focus on energy efficiency, and lots of stimulus money earmarked for it," he says. Wyatt says one of the catalysts for his company's new attention to building performance came from winning a contract from the utilities as an authorized contractor for their Home Energy Solutions program. "Over the last year-and-a-half we've developed a lot of expertise in the field," he says.
The building performance arm of Mr. Handyman's operation will have its own website, mrhandymangreen.com, and Wyatt believes it will become a major addition to the core business of repair and remodeling. "It makes sense to invest more in that segment of our business."
