You look fabulous, you have the perfect holiday gifts wrapped and you even managed to make sure the directions are loaded into the GPS. Now all you need is someone to watch the kids. Don't worry, Ashley Mossberg has your back.
Mossberg runs The Sitting Service. Children, pets or homes: If it needs sitting, she has someone who can handle the job. She's even planning to add elderly care services to the mix. A Fairfield native and current Darien resident, Mossberg runs a business that operates across Fairfield County and into New York.
"Most of our sitters have been with us for more than five years. I know everyone very, very well. I know who is a good fit and who works out best for a particular family," said Mossberg.
With more than 150 sitters on call, she can fill a job at the drop of a hat. There is a membership fee, which varies based on the type of service. Clients also must pay the hourly fees for their requested service. Though it might be cheaper to use the neighbor's kid, Mossberg's service offers peace of mind.
"The advantage is you are guaranteed to have someone who is professionally trained," said Mossberg. "A lot of teens lack experience. The people we use, this is their job."
As part of the screening process, the sitters go through thorough background checks. More than two speeding tickets are enough to keep someone off Mossberg's list. She also matches clients with sitters who are local so they are familiar with the community.
Adult care services mark the next evolution for Mossberg's business. She is hiring registered nurses and specially trained sitters to attend to the needs of elderly people. Those services include helping with shopping or seeing a movie together for companionship.
