Norwalk's Community Plates Receives Grant From Near & Far Aid

NORWALK, Conn. – Norwalk-based Community Plates announced that local food bank Near & Far Aid has given an operational grant of $5,000 to the company.

“We are so grateful to Near & Far Aid for funding innovation in the fight against hunger. This $5,000 grant allows us to rescue and deliver 100,000 meals to people in need in Fairfield County,” said Community Plates' Tom Hauser, the Fairfield County Site Director, in a statement.

Community Plates specializes in making sure that fresh, usable food that would have been tossed away by restaurants, markets and other places gets to families in need of food.

Near & Far Aid aims to fight poverty by helping programs that aim to provide basic necessities to people.

Community Plates' Kevin Mullins is excited about the potential partnership between the two charities.

“This is a perfect partnership since Near & Far Aid funds programs focused on eliminating poverty in Fairfield County," he said. "When people don’t have to scramble for food they are freed up to worry about other things on their hierarchy of needs.”
