If the attendance at last night's special sneak preview event is any indication, Whole Foods Market Darien should be a smashing success. Roughly 1,000 guests showed up for a first-look at the brand new 50,000 square foot facility, where live music and loads of free samples (from popcorn chicken to meatball sliders to sushi) sweetened the tour. Soon-to-be shoppers were especially impressed with features new to Fairfield County Whole Foods fans, like Kombucha tea on tap, a Healthy Eating kiosk to be staffed by an in-store specialist for impromptu nutritional advice, a gelato bar and more. Another crowd-pleaser was the café, which included a play area for kids and will soon be equipped with free wifi. Admission was $10; proceeds went to the charity Person-to-Person. Missed the party? Don't worry - the store opens on May 19.
