Warm Up to a Scotch Tasting

Baby, it may be cold outside, but the Saugatuck Grain & Grape wine and spirits experts are heating up the holidays with a Scotch tasting in their Westport store across from the train station. They’ll be pouring more than a dozen Scotches, many of which you might not know and wouldn’t otherwise consider trying.

“Just because a label sucks, doesn’t mean the Scotch inside isn’t good,” says store co-owner Jeff Marron. “Often, if a label is boring or not very compelling, there’s a reason for it. Sometimes it’s a replica of the original label that’s a hundred years old.”

Marron’s love for spirits has compelled him to become an expert. “One of the things Mimi [McLaughlin, co-owner] and I decided before we even opened the store, is that we wanted to use the space as a place to teach people and introduce them to things they might not try otherwise."

On Tuesday, Dec. 20, the duo will share their knowledge, spirits and some delicious nibbles. And if you need further tempting, McLaughlin and Marron are bringing in the big guns: National Brand Ambassador and Scotch connoisseur Chris Reisbeck from Gordon & MacPhail will be in house to share his knowledge on the storied spirit.

Details are on Saugatuck Grain & Grape’s Facebook page. The store is located at 40 Railroad Place in Westport.
