Shacking Up

Things were shaking last night at Shake Shack, the latest in Westport’s seemingly endless (and very welcome) string of restaurant openings. It was a “family and friends” event on the eve of opening to the public. And, judging by the crowd, Westport has a lot of love for the Shack.

The room got cozy in a hurry, as locals went elbow-to-elbow to sample Shake Shack’s famed burgers, crinkle cut fries, custard milkshakes and signature ShakeMeister Ale. Live music, dancing kids, hungry adults and eager press converged on Danny Meyer’s Connecticut outpost for his burgeoning burger empire. Despite the excitement popping flash bulbs and loud music are wont to produce, I tried to stay focused. I was there for one reason, and one reason only: to eat.

The newest suburban burger is every bit as juicy and delicious as its New York City counterpart. I particularly enjoyed -- as I always do -- the Shack Burger, topped with American cheese, lettuce, tomato and Shack Sauce. The burgers are ground fresh daily, and served on a griddled potato bun, which, as Shake Shack’s Website points out, “provides just the right burger-to-bun ratio.”

Finally.

Starting today, you can consider yourself a Shake Shack friend; doors open to the public at 11:00 a.m.
