Does your car key share a chain with a dozen or more other keys? If so, it might be too a heavy load hanging off the wheel when your key is in the ignition. The weight of a heavy keychain, combined with its bouncing around while you drive, can wear out the tumblers inside the ignition and lead to switch failure.
In order to add years of service to your ignition switch, choose a lightweight key chain that allows you to separate your ignition key from your other keys and drive with only that key in the ignition. If your key sticks when you try to turn on the car, it's a warning your ignition switch might fail imminently.
