Help Needed for Blowers

OK, folks, we all know what’s coming at around the same time as Santa et al. Snow. So here’s a job that should move near the top of your to-do list. Get your snow blower ready to roar into action.

Nothing is quite as irritating as having an expensive piece of equipment that won’t do its job. Manny Silva who works at Home Depot in Norwalk has some advice to keep your blowers blowing. "You should empty the gas tank at the end of each winter season," he said, suggesting you run the machine until it's out of juice. "Treat the blower like a car and change the spark plugs every year, as well as the gas filter," he added.

If you buy a snow blower at Home Depot and it breaks down, they will have it fixed for you. But what about a machine you've bought elsewhere? Who will fix that? I went looking for snow blower service businesses but couldn't find any. There used to be a mower and blower service place in Wilton on Route 7, but that’s closed, and I think there was another place in Darien, but that’s vanished, too. I found a one-man business in Norwalk that fixed anything mechanical, but when I called to inquire, a gentleman told me he’d just moved to North Carolina. There must be somebody out there fixing these machines. But where are they?

So, I’m asking for your help. Are there any readers who know of any snow blower (or lawn mower) repair shops in our towns? Please email me at fpearson@mainstreetconnect.us, or leave a comment below.
