FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Last week’s rain held down the pollen count in Norwalk and surrounding communities, but this week’s warmer temperatures elevated pollen levels.

May is the worst month for most allergy sufferers in the Norwalk area, according to information from Pollen.com. The website reports May’s annual pollen index averages 9.5 on a scale that extends from 0-12. April’s average pollen index is 8, according to Pollen.com, and August’s average index is 8.1. The average shrinks to 5.1 in June.

To help our readers who suffer with seasonal allergies prepare for difficult pollen days, AFC Urgent Care Norwalk is providing Allergy Alerts powered by Pollen.com. We're providing advance warning that can help sufferers take the necessary precautions to reduce discomfort. For more tips on dealing with allergies see 3 Simple Tips To Reduce Seasonal Allergy Symptoms.

More good news for people with allergy issues is that the forecast over the next week appears favorable. Rain is expected Friday, which holds down the pollen count. Temperatures are also expected to remain in the 60s next week, which should help keep the pollen count at a moderate level.

Allergy symptoms include itchy and watery eyes, runny nose, fatigue, itchy throat and irritability. Physicians at AFC Urgent Care Norwalk can help identify specific allergies. For more information, visit the AFC Urgent Care Norwalk office at 607 Main Ave. or call them at 203-845-9100.
