Tree and grass pollen are expected to be high on Wednesday and Thursday but should fall back to a healthier range by Friday. After a forecasted spike on Saturday, the pollen count should ease again on Sunday.

The pollen reading for the region soared to some of the highest levels of the spring last week. According to Pollen.com, the index reached 9.0 or above every day from May 25-31 except for Sunday, May 29, when rain pelted the region.

Better news for allergy sufferers is the historical index. June’s pollen count averages 5.1, well under the average May level of 9.5. The index average has been 4.1 for July, historically, before rising again in August.

Some reminders to help deal with allergy distress include keeping windows closed in your home and car, setting air conditioners to re-circulate in your home and vehicle, and limiting outdoor exposure between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m. when pollen counts are highest.

Dr. Mark Wasserman, MD and medical director at AFC Doctors Express in Norwalk says; “smart habits to reduce the impact of high pollen days are clearly helpful, but we are always here to review your symptoms if you are suffering from allergy-like conditions”.
