Singer Linda Eder's emotionally powerful voice electrifies fans who think she lights up a song with as much wattage as Barbra, Beyonce or Celine. Hear how she plugs in to the heart of pop standards and theater music when she performs at Ridgefield Playhouse on March 11.
Eder popped into the public eye in 1987 on the TV show, "Star Search." She was so popular with the audience, she was voted back for an unprecedented 12 consecutive weeks. Not only did she wrap the show's fans around her vocal chords, her appearance also won her a starring role on Broadway as Lucy in "Jekyll & Hyde." She received a Drama Desk Award nomination for her performance in the show.
Though her career took off quickly, according to Eder, she still marvels at some of its early high points, as she tells "The Voice," the offical Eder fan newsletter. "I think my first solo concert at Carnegie Hall will always be at the top. It's something I aspired to as a kid. 'Star Search' is a close second. It's something I never dreamed of. It just seemed to happen, but I am still proud of myself for having been able to overcome my terrible nerves enough to perform in front of cameras and judges."
Eder released her first album in 1991 and this month, "Linda Eder Now," her thirteenth, comes out. With it, she reconnects with producer-composer Frank Wildhorn. Musicremedy.com describes the potent effect of this renewed collaboration. "Eder's transcendent voice is the perfect complement to Wildhorn's lush, imaginative music. The dozen, mostly brand-new songs on 'Now' elevate the spirit while capturing many moods," it says.
