NORWALK, CONN. -- Calling all walkers! Norwalk city officials are looking to start a walking club in the historic Silvermine area of the city, and are inviting residents to help kick things off with a walk Saturday.
Also, city officials are unveiling new NorWALKer walking maps, including Silvermine routes. Visit the website to see the maps or for more details about local walking clubs.
To get a Silvermine walking program started, Mayor Harry Rilling, the Norwalk Health Department, the Healthy for Life Project, and the Riverbrook Regional YMCA invite Norwalk residents to a 2.5-mile neighborhood walk. It starts at 8 a.m. Saturday at Silvermine Elementary School, 157 Perry Ave.
After the walk, all are invited to meeting Silvermine Market to help start a walking program in town. Advance registration is not required, officials said. The effort is part of a larger city-wide NorWALKer program coordinated by the Norwalk Health Department along with The Healthy Life Project.
