Holiday Stroll Shows and Tells

Decked and lit, glowing and twinkling, downtown Greenwich pulls out all the stops on Dec. 4 and 5, for its Second Annual Greenwich Holiday Stroll Weekend. Presented by TD Bank to benefit Kids in Crisis, visitors make their way through a swirl of holiday happenings and a blizzard of seasonal entertainment including caroling, gospel music and ice sculptures.  Bring your holiday shopping list and an empty stomach because you'll also be showered with special treats and presents to buy and taste. More than 75 retailers and restaurants are ready to welcome shoppers with specialty foods, tastings and unique product samplings

On Saturday from 1-4 p.m., six professional ice carvers work in tents making sculptures. A panel of judges will choose the winners and the finished creations can be seen on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For early birds on Saturday, join Santa for breakfast at TD Bank from 8 to 9 a.m. Throughout the two days, 10 tents will burst with music, from the Good News Gospel Choir with Chris Coogan, The Grace Notes, a popular Greenwich women’s a cappella group, The Off Sounders, Greenwich’s premier men’s a cappella group, and more. In addition, special Greenwich Reindeer Shopping Passports get stamped after purchases. Completed passports deposited at Santa’s Mailbox at McArdle’s Florist & Garden Center, might win you one of three grand prizes. 

“Because there are no parking fees on Saturday, perhaps that presents an opportunity for people to give that money to Kids in Crisis instead,” suggests Allen L. Corry, Director of Parking Services in Greenwich. Donation boxes are conveniently placed along the way. Happy holiday shopping! Hours are: Saturday, Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The stroll covers East and West Putnam Avenue to Lewis Street to East and West Elm Street to Mason Street and along Greenwich Avenue.
