I started my professional life as a research psychologist (not the "do you love your mother" kind). I enjoyed research and teaching, but noticed that I spent most of my non-classroom time writing and editing, often to help other people.

When I left academia,  all the "you should be a writer" admonitions followed me to job interviews. I've been squeezing in part-time writing and editing jobs for about 9 years, so now I am happily doing it full time.

Richard Metcalf, 52, Of Lyndhurst LYNDHURST, N.J.— Richard Metcalf, 52, of Lyndhurst, N.J. died Sunday, Nov. 15. He was the beloved son of Rowland and the late Eleanor (Hale) Rowland; the loving father of Kristie, Taylor, Kaitlyn, and Jordan; and the cherished brother of Joyce Jankowski. He also is survived by many extended family members and friends. Metcalf owned his own plumbing service. The funeral service is at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Ippolito-Stellato Funeral Home, 425 Ridge Road. Cremation will be private.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Metcalf Family would be greatly appreciated.

He was born July 6, 1992, to John and Sophie Yaschur and was raised in Wallington. Yaschur served honorably in World War II in the U.S. Navy on the USS Hobson, where he earned a Bronze Star for his valiant efforts in restoring power to the ship that had been lost during an explosion.
