Blue-Green Algae Arrives Early In Putnam County PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. – Algal blooms have arrived early in Putnam County lakes this year due to the recent mild winter, closing at least six beaches so far this year. Algae can be more than a simple nuisance and may present a serious health hazard. Hundreds Of Students Take Part In South Orangetown Steam Camp ORANGETOWN, N.Y. – South Orangetown Central School District (SOCSD) welcomed more than 225 students to the first SOCSD Summer STEAM camp on Tuesday, July 5 at South Orangetown Middle School. Students in first through ninth grades will spend two weeks immersed in areas of science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM).
