Angelo John Gesualdi a lifetime resident of New Canaan and longtime firefighter, died Saturday of a heart attack with his family by his side.
He was 75.
Gesualdi was born on May 16, 1943, in Stamford to the late Vito and Vera Coco Gesualdi.
He was a firefighter with the New Canaan Fire Department for 34 years and was ranked as a Captain of the department. During his retirement, Gesualdi loved to start his mornings with his firehouse family and greeting each day “uptown,” seeing friends and keeping up with the community.
Gesualdi was also known for his apple pies and his love of making them for friends and family to order – tart, sweet or somewhere in between.
"He will be sorely missed for the way he could light up a room, for his infinite stories of his early years, a sense of humor that kept everyone on their toes, and the deep love that he had for life and his family," his obituary said.
He is survived by his wife, Cecilia Gesualdi; his son: Don (Valerie) Gesualdi; granddaughter Ava of New Canaan; two step-daughters Clare Eelman of Stamford; Elizabeth (Scott) Davidson and their daughter Brady of Guilford, and his step-son Ray (Linda) Alfson and their children Amy and Joe of Norwalk.
The family will receive friends and family from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St., New Canaan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Thursday, Sept. 27, at St. Aloysius Church, 21 Cherry St., New Canaan. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in New Canaan.
