New York Republicans have nominated Nassau County Legislator Mazi Melesa Pilip as their candidate for the state’s special election to fill George Santos’ vacant House seat, NBC News reports. A spokesperson for the National Republican Congressional Committee told the outlet that party officials in Nassau County and Queens had picked Pilip for the 3rd District race. 19: Here's How Much Longer Lamont Wants Executive Powers Extended
Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont said that he expects to extend his emergency powers for another 90 days as he works with state lawmakers on certain COVID-19 mandates and protocols. With his emergency powers to expire on Thursday, Sept. 30, Lamont said he plans to extend his emergency powers 90 days further, saying that action through the General Assembly “takes too long.” The emergency powers would then be extended through Wednesday, Dec. 29. 19: CT Congresswoman Jahana Hayes Tests Positive
Congresswoman Jahana Hayes, whose district comprises much of northwestern Connecticut, has tested positive for COVID-19. “This morning I received a positive COVID-19 test result and will be quarantined for the next 14 days,” said the 47-year-old Hayes in a statement released Sunday, Sept. 20.
