Areas Near Transformer Explosion In Norwalk Expected To Remain Without Power For Most Of Day Norwalk Fire Department officials say businesses near the area where an explosion and fire in a sidewalk electrical transformer took place will be without power most the day. The incident took place around 9:35 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 21, in front of 44 North Main Street, said Norwalk Deputy Fire Chief Edward Prescott. Transformer Fire Closes Norwalk Roadway, Cuts Power, Police Say A transformer fire caused a road closure and cut power to many in Norwalk. A transformer exploded about around 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 21, on North Main Street, police said. Police say North Main has reopened after being closed between Washington and Marshall streets. The explosion was caused by an underground transformer fire that also caused a major power outage in downtown Norwalk, police said.
