James R. Marr, 88, Of Greenwich, World War II Veteran

GREENWICH, Conn. - James Robert "Bunny" Marr of Greenwich died Monday, May 26. He was 88.

Marr was born Nov. 6, 1925, in Bernardasville, N.J., to James and Helen Patterson Marr. At age 17, he joined the U.S. Navy Armed Guard and took part in the invasion of Normandy during World War II. After the war, he worked at Drinkwaters Auction House and years later at Toyota of Greenwich. He also worked for Maneros Restaurant in Greenwich for more than 20 years.

He was an a member of the Cos Cob and Greenwich communities, serving for many years as the chief of the Cos Cob Volunteer Fire Company as both a leader and a mentor. He also was a member of the Mianus River Boat Club and the Greenwich Chapter of the American Legion.

Marr is survived by his children, Kimberly (William) Kalinski of Greenwich, James (Marianna) Marr of Westerly, R.I., and Craig Marr of Charleston, R.I.; brother, Charles Frederick Marr of Millbrook; longtime companion, Addie Roina of Greenwich; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Betty Drinkwater Marr; and siblings, William Marr, Helen Marr Wilson and Jean Marr Schultz.

Calling hours are Thursday, May 29, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Castiglione Funeral Home, 134 Hamilton Ave., Greenwich. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 30, at Diamond Hill Methodist Church, 521 E. Putnam Ave., Cos Cob.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
