Obituary: Edward Gunnip of Greenwich

GREENWICH, Conn. — Edward Gunnip, a lifelong resident of Greenwich, died Monday at Greenwich Hospital. He was 63 years old.

Gunnip was the son of Edward and Angie Gunnip and was born Sept. 25, 1948, in Greenwich. He served as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve. He worked at Unlimited Care in White Plains, N.Y.

Gunnip was an active parishioner of Sacred Heart Church in Byram and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Orinoco No. 39 Council. He was a sports enthusiast and played softball for many teams in Greenwich, playing for Pucci's for the longest period. When Gunnip retired from actively playing softball, he became an umpire in town. He also loved working with young people and was an instructor at the Softball Clinic held every year by Parks and Recreation.

Gunnip is survived by his wife Janice; father Edward P. Gunnip; sister Kathleen Ferris; brother Chris Gunnip; and three nieces and nephews. Family and friends may visit the Castiglione Funeral Home Inc. on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Greenwich. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gunnip's name to Sacred Heart Church, 95 Henry St., Greenwich, CT 06830.
