GREENWICH, Conn. -- Anything your heart desires in luxury bedding can be found in the new Greenwich design store Togas on Putnam Avenue.

The boutique traces its roots back to the main company Togas Houses of Textiles founded in Athens, Greece, in 1926.

"Our store is owned by a third generation of the same family that appreciate the variety of aesthetics, from very traditional to modern we carry," said Store Manager Paula Davitch.

There are Togas boutiques throughout Greece and in other countries. This is the first one to open in the United States, she noted.

The store's merchandise includes pillows, duvets, duvet covers, curtains, bathrobes and towels, tableware, gifts and accessories. High-quality designs are selected by the company's designers in Athens and come from Greece.

"We carry the same eclectic collections of fine linens and custom made home furnishings, uniquely designed and crafted for almost a century," Davitch said. "Our boutique is beautiful and our product is exceptional on all levels - design, quality, and workmanship."

Davitch said her background is working in apparel and she has a special affinity for "all things beautiful."

"Our luxury bedding is a big proponent of what we carry, also gorgeous throws, and decorative pillows," she enthused.

"We have a ready-goods so you can purchase and take away items, and the couture section to work with our interior design staff. We also sell our fabrics for their designs," Davitch explained.

Among high-quality fabrics used in the duvet covers, there are highly specialized ones made from camel hair, for just one example.

"The wool is very beautiful and warm. It comes from the underbelly of baby camels," said Davitch.

"We have Cashmere and four different styles of down in our duvets. One is made with the feathers of Austrian white goose. It is very specialized. Only 200 products are made a year with it. It's gorgeous. There is no spine so you won't get the down poking out. It's hand filled, not machine filled. That one's incredible."

Another duvet is made of Madurian white goose down. "The feather is 30 percent larger than Siberian goose down, which is much more common," Davitch explained.

"It's light and fluffy, not a lot of weight on the body but it keeps you warm."

In addition to cotton and other natural fiber duvets and pillows, there are ones made from synthetic fibers that mirror natural ones, Davitch said.

"They are more cost efficient and hyper allergenic, to suit various needs and budgets."

Togas is located at 51-53 Putnam Ave., Greenwich.
