FAIRFIELD, Conn. Fairfields school board got a new batch of leaders Tuesday night. Republican Pamela Iacono took over as chair of the Board of Education at the bodys November meeting. Her fellow board members elected her to the post by a 5-4 vote.
I really want this board to put its differences aside, and work together for the 10,000 students that we serve, in cooperation with central administration and the other town bodies, Iacono said after her election.
Iacono takes over from John Mitola, who left the board this November after being elected to the Representative Town Meeting. She has been a member of the body for three years and was its vice chair since 2009.
Fellow Republican Paul Fattibene, who nominated Iacono, said he chose her because of her experience. She has demonstrated organizational skills, knowledge and the capability to serve, Fattibene told the other board members.
School board newcomer Phil Dwyer was the runner-up in the race. He was unopposed for the vice chairs role immediately afterward. Jessica Gerber rounded out the boards officers by taking the role of secretary. The newly elected board member edged out fellow newcomer Jennifer Maxon Kennelly by a 5-4 vote.
