Two Face Drug Charges After Fairfield Car Crash

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Two Bridgeport men were charged with drug possession and intent to sell, after heroin and marijuana were found in their cars following an accident in Fairfield Monday, according to a police report.

Officers on patrol saw a car traveling at nearly 100 miles per hour on Kings Highway Monday evening, police said. The car swerved over the median near Villa Avenue, and then moved back across the road before crashing into a concrete wall near the shoulder, the report said.

An officer reported seeing Angel L. Gabriel, 23, of Bridgeport standing near the trunk of the car, and then move back to the driver’s door, police say. A scale with white powdery residue was found inside Gabriel’s car, and when a tow truck cleared the car from the scene three packages were found on the ground, near where Gabriel had been standing earlier, according to the police report. The packages contained a total of 34 bags filled with heroin, police say.

Meanwhile, a friend of Gabriel's, Omar Valez, 22, of Bridgeport, had stopped to help his Gabriel after the crash, according to a police report. While talking with Valez, officers reported smelling marijuana coming from his car, police say. Two individually-wrapped bags with a small amount of marijuana were found in the car, according to the report.

Gabriel was charged with possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia and intent to sell. He was released after posting a $5,000 bond, and is due in court May 9. Valez was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell and issued an infraction for possession of less than a half ounce of marijuana. His bond was set at $1,000, and he is also due in court May 9.
