A witness called police at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to report a suspicious person in a wooded area near Vermont Avenue, police said. The witness said it appeared that the man was watching children at a nearby home, according to the police report.
Officers found Daniel Gonzalez, 36, of Bridgeport in another wooded area nearby, police said. He initially told conflicting stories, but eventually police found that he had been stalking an ex-girlfriend who lives in the area, according to the police report.
The woman told police that Gonzalez had been showing up at the house unannounced and repeatedly sent multiple text messages to the victim despite requests to stop contacting her, police said. She requested an arrest after she was told he was found in the area, according to the police report.
Gonzalez was charged with second-degree stalking, third-degree harassment and interfering with police, all misdemeanors. He was held on a $5,000 bond, and is due in court Thursday.
