What's Happening This Weekend in Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – School plays, spring traditions and fundraisers highlight Fairfield’s calendar this weekend. Here’s a collection of some of the events happening around town over the next three days.

Friday, May 4

Designer House Tour: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Near and Far Aid’s annual fundraiser offers the chance to tour five homes decorated by prominent interior designers. The event starts with a breakfast at the Patterson Club, 1118 Cross Highway.

Rock on Riverfield Carnival: 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Riverfield Elementary School’s annual spring carnival comes to the school’s campus, 1625 Mill Plain Road. Wristbands for unlimited rides cost $20 per night. The carnival continues Saturday from 2 to 9 p.m., with a rain date of Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.

Cuatro de Mayo: 7:30 p.m. The Pilot House, a Fairfield center for students with developmental disabilities, will hold a fundraiser at Penfield Pavilion, 323 Fairfield Beach Road. The event will feature wine, beer and margaritas, tapas provided by Flavor Caterers and music from the Jay Stollman Band. Tickets are $50 at the organization’s website.

Man of La Mancha: 8 p.m. Fairfield Warde High School’s Drama Club presents its spring musical, based on the story of Don Quixote. Tickets are $10 at the door at the school’s auditorium, at 755 Melville Ave. Shows are also planned for Saturday night at 8 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.

Grease: 8 p.m. Notre Dame High School will also put on its spring musical, based on the  1978 film. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and $7 for students. Repeat shows are also scheduled for 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Performances will be held at the Edgerton Center at Sacred Heart University, 5151 Park Ave.

Saturday, May 5

March for Babies: 9 a.m. to Noon. A 5K walk to raise money for the March of Dimes steps off from Penfield Pavilion, 323 Fairfield Beach Road. To make a donation or to register to walk, visit the event website.

Congressman Himes’ Deficit Workshop: 12:30 p.m. Congressman Jim Himes and the Concord Coalition will hold a workshop on ways to reduce the federal deficit in Fairfield’s Osborn Hill School, 760 Stillson Road. Residents are welcome to attend to offer their feedback.

Derby Day Celebration: 4 to 7 p.m. The Pequot Library (720 Pequot Ave.) hosts is annual fundraiser centered around the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby. Tickets are $60 for individuals and $300 for a tailgate, and are available at the library’s website.

Cinefest 2012: 6 p.m. Fairfield University hosts its annual film festival featuring submissions from its student filmmakers. Admission is free at the Quick Center for the Arts, 1073 N. Benson Road

Sunday, May 6

Christine’s Run It While You Can 5K: 10:15 a.m. The annual race to benefit the Christine Morandi Memorial Fund starts at Jennings Beach. Includes a half-mile fun run for kids, a one-mile family fun run, a 5K race and a 2K fitness walk. For more information visit the race website.

Appraisal Fair and Tag Sale: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Grasmere Adult Day Care (1 Post Road) will host an Antiques Roadshow-style appraisal fair, along with a flea market featuring collectibles and other items. Appraisals of jewelry, collectibles and heirlooms cost $5 per item.
