Three Charged with Shoplifting in Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Three people were charged with shoplifting across Fairfield in a span of about four hours Tuesday afternoon. The Stratford, Bridgeport and Westport residents were arrested for thefts ranging from less than $5 to more than $400.

The first incident took place at Bob’s Store on Post Road at about 2:40 p.m. Store security told police that Devin Fennell, 18, of Stratford, was seen placing socks and shirts under his clothing. He then tried to walk out without paying for about $60 worth of merchandise, according to the report. He was charged with sixth-degree larceny and released on a promise to appear in court on Dec. 5.

The second case happened just down the Post Road 15 minutes later. Employees at Cumberland Farms saw Gary King, Sr., 49, of Bridgeport, place three Rice Krispies Treats in his pockets and try to walk out of the store, police say.

King then said he was “embarrassed” and offered to pay for the items, totaling $4.77. But store employees told police that he had done the same thing before, and wished to press charges, police say. King was charged with sixth-degree larceny, and released on a promise to appear in court on Dec. 5.

The third incident was at Super Stop & Shop on Villa Avenue, at about 6 p.m. Store security told police that a woman placed $427 in various items into a shopping cart, and walked out of the store without paying. When employees tried to stop her, she ran out of the parking lot. Police stopped Mary Harmony, 47, of Westport, on Tunxis Hill Road shortly after the call. Store employees identified her as the suspect, police say.

Officers also found that Harmony had a warrant for her arrest related to charges in Stratford. She was charged with sixth-degree larceny for Fairfield’s charges, and a charged with failure to appear in court for the Stratford incident. She was released on a $500 bond.
