Pair Charged With Fairfield Home Burglary

A pair of suspected burglars were apprehended Thursday night while attempting to rob a Fairfield home. Police received a call from a neighbor near 349 Stratfield Road of two people coming out of the home with garbage bags. The home is up for sale and was supposed to be unoccupied.

Police said they nabbed Preciosa Antunes, 42, of Bridgeport walking out of the back door carrying garbage bags. They were initially unable to find the second suspect. But with help from Bridgeport Police’s K-9 unit, Fairfield’s cops found a vehicle parked on Marne Avenue with trash bags inside.

Police traced the car’s registration to Laurel Avenue in Bridgeport. The registered owner said her brother, James Simmons, 44, was driving the car that night, and that he was next door. Simmons told police the car had been stolen, but he was identified as the second suspect in the burglary.

Both Antunes and Simmons were charged with first-degree burglary, possession of burglar’s tools, second-degree criminal mischief, larceny and conspiracy. Antunes posted her $10,000 bond, and Simmons posted $20,000. Both are due in court Jan. 31.
