Motorist Faces Weapons Charges

When a Fairfield patrol officer stopped a car leaving a parking lot with its headlights off, he found more than he expected inside. Police said Michael Saladino of Bridgeport was exiting a business on Kings Highway East at 1:02 a.m. Sunday when he was pulled over. Inside his car was a B.B. rifle and a knife with a 14-inch blade.

The 50-year-old is a convicted felon, and police say there is a protective order prohibiting him from carrying weapons.

Saladino was charged with having weapons in a motor vehicle, carrying a dangerous weapon, violation of a protective order, criminal trespass, criminal weapon possession, operating while under suspension, failure to return a license, driving without insurance and failure to have headlights on.

He was held on $5,000 bond and is set to appear at Bridgeport Superior Court on July 6.

Police said Saladino told the arresting officer he was behind the business looking for metal. He had copper in his car.
