FAIRFIELD, Conn. ? The following letter is from Robert Bellitto, an unsuccessful candidate for Fairfield first selectmen.
The great sportswriter Grantland Rice once wrote, "For when the One Great Scorer comes to write against your name, He marks ? not that you won or lost ? but how you played the Game." It is with this sentiment in mind that I would like to publicly thank my family, friends, campaign team and all of those who supported me during my campaign for First Selectman. My name may have been on the lawn signs, but there were some very special people standing behind me. You know who you are, and you have my love, respect and gratitude.
While I did not prevail, I have no regrets about taking this journey. I did it my way. I tried to keep it positive, and I was honest with the citizens of Fairfield about who I am and what I stand for. I have often said that long after this election is over, I will still be here. I will continue to work as your representative on the Board of Finance, and I will continue to be active in the community. I love Fairfield, and thats what will keep me here. I remain hopeful for Fairfields future, and I will do whatever I can to help.
