Joseph Levarek, 87, Business Owner of Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Joseph Levarek of Fairfield, formerly of Boynton Beach, Fla., died May 2 at the Jewish Home for the Elderly in Fairfield. He was 87.  

He was born in Warsaw, Poland, to Yisrael Getzl and Rachal Levarek. A Holocaust survivor, Levarek met his late wife, Helen Levarek, in a displaced persons camp soon after the war. After emigrating to the United States, he and his wife settled in Fairfield. 

Levarek owned a rubber stamp company in Fairfield, supplying local businesses for many years. He was a longtime member of Congregation Ahavath Achim in Fairfield. 

He is survived by two sons, Harold (Louise Krause) Levarek, of North Haven, Conn., and Israel (Jessica) Levarek, of New York, N.Y.; and two grandchildren. 

A private service was to be held on Friday at Ahavath Achim Cemetery in Fairfield. Shiva will be held at the home of Harold Levarek in North Haven from 3 to 7 p.m. until May 10.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, 100 Raoul Wallenberg Place SW, Washington, DC 20024.
