Joseph 'Dom' Curtis, 77, of Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Joseph "Dom" Curtis of Fairfield died May 29 at Maplewood of Newtown. He was 77.

Born July 15, 1934, in Dublin, Ireland, he was the son of Joseph and Annette Curtis. He emigrated from Ireland with his father and sister in 1953 to Niagara Falls, N.Y. Curtis eventually settled in Cleveland. In 1963, he accepted a job with Exide Battery and he and his wife, Rosaline, relocated to Fairfield and began their family. 

Curtis was also employed by Gilbert and Bennett Wire Co. in Georgetown before retiring from Handy & Harman in Fairfield. He loved gardening, painting, fishing, golfing and sailing his boat out of South Benson Marina with his family. 

Curtis is survived by two daughters, Christine Yim and husband Anthony of Danbury, and Julie Curtis and husband Cyrus Paktinat of West Redding; a son, Kevin Curtis and wife  Danielle of Fairfield; a sister, Celine Chapman and husband Louis of Strongsville, Ohio; and four grandchildren, a nephew and a niece. He will also be missed by his friend, Gail Colby, of Monroe, and her family. 

Friends may greet the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home in Fairfield Center. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Fairfield. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
