FAIRFIELD, Conn. Former Fairfield resident James "Jim" J. Boyle died May 2 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. He was 87.
The son of Martin and Bridget Fallon Boyle of County Sligo, Ireland, he was born March 27, 1925. Most recently a resident of Shelton, Boyle previously lived in Fairfield and Stratford.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served as a gunner's mate. Boyle was a member of the Patrol Craft Sailors Association. He was employed at General Electric in Bridgeport for 25 years as a tag office supervisor. He was married to Patricia Collins Boyle.
In his retirement, Boyle worked as a school crossing guard at Nichols School in Stratford. He was an ardent lifelong fan of the New York Giants and University of Connecticut women's basketball. Boyle was a member of Our Lady of Peace Church in Lordship and the Gaelic American Club. He enjoyed singing in the church choir and the Gaelic glee club.
Boyle is survived by his wife, Patricia; a brother, David Boyle and wife Ann of Shelton; and a sister-in-law and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Martin, Edward and Francis Boyle; and three sisters, Mary Perchaluk, Margaret Barnes and Joan Boyle.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated May 12 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church.

Boyle's family thanks Paws and Claws Kennel in Shelton for its kindness during his illness. Harding Funeral Home in Westport is assisting the family with the arrangements.
