Fairfield Kids Hatch a Creative Project

The carnival that sprung up in Fairfield over the past few weeks has everything you’d expect. It has entertaining rides, including a merry-go-round, a waterslide and a haunted house. It also features a snack shop with its prospective customer’s favorite treat—bird seed. The Swing and Fly Amusement Park for Birds is now on display at the Fairfield Woods Branch Library.

Fairfield kids designed and built the amusement park during a five-week program co-sponsored by the Young Artists Studio, the Fairfield Public Library and the Connecticut Audubon Society. Participating students first met at the Audubon Society’s Fairfield center, where they watched a video on amusement park design and took a nature walk to learn about the state’s native birds.

Then the kids spent four weeks designing and building rides, attractions and booths using their newfound knowledge. They pieced together their designs using sticks, rocks and other objects found on nature walks.

If you’d like to see what they came up with, the Swing and Fly Amusement Park is now on display in the Fairfield Woods Branch Library, 1147 Fairfield Woods Road.
