FAIRFIELD, Conn. The annual swarm of rubber ducks down Fairfields Mill River is more than a week away. But those eager to join in on the fun can get started right now. Super-size Decorate Me ducks for the fifth annual Fairfield County Ducky Derby are available now at Fairfield businesses.
Each year, the Fairfield County Ducky Derby pits hundreds of rubber ducks against each other in a race down the Mill River. The event is a major fundraiser for Fairfields St. Catherine Academy, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bridgeports school for students with special needs.
Along with the racing ducks purchased on the day of the derby, those interested in joining the festivities can also buy a Decorate Me duck in advance to enter the design competition. Decorated rubber ducks will be judged in various categories across two age groups 10 and under and 11 and over.
You can pick up a duck for a $15 donation at the Bank of Fairfields branches or Whole Foods Market on Grasmere Avenue. Then you can decorate your new friend using any materials you would like.
The Fairfield County Ducky Derby will take place May 19 on Fairfields Mill River. For more information, visit the event website.
