Owner William L. Kenny has lived or worked in Fairfield for more than 20 years and has more than 30 years of experience in site and environmental planning and construction. Kenny is a Certified Professional Wetland Scientist, a Soil Scientist, Certified Organic Land Care Professional and Registered Landscape Architect.
As a landscape architect and ecological scientist, he uses and observes native plants on a daily basis. It is because of his appreciation for the town and for native plants and their benefits that he has decided to open NATIVE in Fairfield.
“We are thrilled for the opportunity to welcome the public to visit and embrace our philosophy of using native plants in the landscape,” said Kenny.
According to Kenny, using native plants is beneficial for our environment – and not only because of the wide variety of native perennials, shrubs, trees and vines available to beautify a landscape with flowers, fruit, attractive bark.
Native plants consistently provide higher amounts of food, shelter and habitat than non-native plants for wildlife like specific local birds and can serve as the backbone for your pollinator garden. Kenny also stresses that native plants typically require lower maintenance and lower watering demands when placed in their preferred sun exposure and soil moisture level.
A formal opening along with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, officiated by First Selectman Michael Tetreau, was held on May 11.
NATIVE is located at 2940 Redding Road in Fairfield and open Tuesday through Sunday from 8 AM to 4 PM. Additional information on the company and this event can be found at www.anativeplantnursery.com.
