CEO Says GE Will Aid Boston Causes After Leaving Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- General Electric Co. will be largely civic-minded upon its relocation to Boston this summer where 800 of its 333,000 employees will work, according to the Boston Globe.

Chief Executive Jeff Immelt, a New Canaan resident, reportedly told the Globe, "We want our presence felt." 

In a Friday interview, Immelt told Globe editors and reporters GE's focus philanthropically would be toward "education and community health, same as at its headquarters in Fairfield, according to the Globe.

GE would provide assistance to high schools locally, Immelt told the Globe.
