TRUMBULL, Conn. Darien High School girls cross country team swept past St Josephs and Stamford High with a pair of perfect 15-50 scores. But the third match up in this four school race could not have been any closer. Both Ridgefield and Darien finished with 28 points. The tie breaker came down to both squads' number six finisher. Alex Pear took that match-up, and kept Darien unbeaten on the season.
Pear posted the winning stat, but the reality was that it took the three-girl-team-pride of her, McKinley Stauffer and Sophie Long working together for the entire race distance. The trio held off Ridgefield's number five finisher, denying her a better score, and a Ridgefield win.
Top finishers for Darien in the 3.10-mile course at St Joseph High were:
Grace Loh, 20:50, 2nd place overall (out of 65 finishers)
Sarah Colon, 21:40, 3rd place
Ellen Bauer, 21:54, 6th place
McKinley Stauffer, 22:23, 8th place
Sophie Long, 22:29, 9th place
Alex Pear, 22:30, 10th place
Katie Donovan, 23:03, 12th place
Katie Farren, 23:44, 15th place
Emma Davis, 24:46, 17th place
Kate Halabi, 24:54 19th place
After finishing up a tough schedule of three races in seven days, the Blue Wave girls are 9-0. They now have two weeks to prep for Greenwich, Wilton and current FCIAC Standings co-leader, Fairfield Warde.
