Darien High School Appoints New Leaders

DARIEN, Conn. - Darien High School has appointed Arlene Gottesman as the interim principal for next year.

Jacob Greenwood has been appointed the new assistant principal.

Gottesman will replace Dan Haron, who is retiring at the end of this year to join his family's real estate business. Greenwood is replacing Michael Sullivan, who recently was appointed to the position of director of athletics.

Gottesman has spent most of her career in high schools in Connecticut. She retired in 2011 as the assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and technology in Wilton. Prior to that, she was the principal of Newton High School from 2005-07 and the principal of Jonathan Law High School from 1998 to 2005. She also held positions in Norwalk schools as a teacher, guidance counselor, health education coordinator, supervisor of health, PE and athletics and Norwalk High School housemaster.

Greenwood has spent his entire career in the Ridgefield school system. He currently is the chair of the science department at Ridgefield High School, a position he has had since 2009. He also teaches college prep biology and Advanced Placement biology. He has served as Dean of Students and was an assistant coach for boys' and girl's soccer for 10 years.

Gottesman and Greenwood will begin their duties June 30.
