DARIEN, Conn. -- Among the many wonderful features that Darien has to offer its residents, the most appealing in the hot summer months may be the two beaches in town.

Weed Beach, the larger of the two beaches, includes a bathhouse, concession stand and picnic area with grills. There is even a lovely playground for young children to enjoy located right on the sand.

Weed Beach also has six tennis courts and five paddle tennis courts as well as a paddle tennis warming hut that is available for rent. There is even a fire pit near the paddle tennis warming hut.

Pear Tree Point beach has both a front beach area and a back beach area. It has a peaceful covered gazebo where visitors can sit and relax while eating lunch, dinner or just a quick snack. Pear Tree also has a picnic area with grills, a bathhouse and a concession stand.

I grew up in Darien and fondly remember the many times I sat at Pear Tree or Weed Beach, taking in the views of the Long Island Sound, enjoying a cheeseburger or pretzel rod from one of the concession stands.

Take the time to pack a picnic dinner and bring your family down to the beach to relax and unwind from your busy day. Children love to play at the beach and after they spend time running outside with the scent of the salty air, they will sleep well that night.
