Officers were dispatched to the Post Road and West Norwalk Road at 3:35 p.m. Aug. 15, police said.

The bicyclist told officers that he had stopped on the sidewalk to wait until it was safe to cross the intersection, police said.

A driver stopped at the stop sign and waved the bicyclist across, he told police.

As the bicyclist crossed, a gray 2003 Acura RSX made a left turn onto West Norwalk Road and hit the bicyclist, police said.

The Acura initially stopped and asked the bicyclist if he was OK, but then left the scene, police said. The bicyclist took a picture of the car's license plate, police said.

Officers contacted the owner of the vehicle and saw damage on the vehicle consistent with the impact described by the bicyclist, police said.

The driver admitted he was at the scene and said he almost hit the bicyclist, but said his car never made contact, police said.

The driver was issued a misdemeanor summons for evading responsibility and failure to yield while turning left. He was released on a promise to appear in court Aug. 28.
