Joseph Journalist, 86, Darien Native, WWII Veteran

DARIEN, Conn. – Joseph "Joe" John Journalist, a resident of Stamford and former resident of Darien, died July 18 at Smith House in Stamford. He was 86.  

Born Dec. 16, 1925, in Darien, he was the son of Maria Poccia and John Journalist. After graduating from Darien High School in 1944 as class president, Journalist served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. 

He attended Pace College and retired from Machlett Laboratories. Journalist was a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, serving on the board of directors. He was also a member of the Piedmont Club in Darien and active in Darien Little League and Babe Ruth League. Journalist was a member of the National Accounting Association. 

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Troy Journalist, of Stamford; three daughters, Joanne (Robert) Parr, of Darien, Cathy Little, of Needham, Mass., and Lori Miller, of Norwalk; two sisters, Elizabeth Gari and Katherine Freer, both of Florida; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by three sisters, Theresa DeCaro, Vera Valenti and Margaret D'Acunto; and four brothers, John, Anthony, Eugene and Fredrick Journalist. 

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John Roman Catholic Church in Darien. Burial with full military honors will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien. Edward Lawrence Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
