Darien Police Charge Nanny With Stealing Dishes

DARIEN, Conn. – A Greenwich woman was charged in connection with the theft of dishes at the Darien home where she worked as a nanny. Blanca Pineda, 59, admitted to taking four pieces of stainless steel flatware, along with miscellaneous serving dishes, police said.

The homeowner returned at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 15 and noticed a brown paper shopping bag sitting in the front yard with the dishes inside, police said. He took the bag to the side of the house to show his wife when she returned home.

According to police reports, when the man went inside, Pineda abruptly left the premises. The homeowner went outside to check the bag and saw it was missing. Police contacted Pineda, who returned the items and admitted she had taken them.

The missing items were worth a total of $500. Pineda was charged with sixth-degree larceny and released on a promise to appear in court Feb. 27.
