Resident Takes the Next Step in Life

Shannon Finkel of Darien is about to trade the familiar for the unfamiliar as she begins her first year of college at Loyola University Maryland.

"I have lived in Darien for the past 10 years and have mostly good things to say about the town. I like living in a place where no matter where I go, I will see a familiar face," she said.

"I love the fact that anything important someone may need is in a close proximity to the town, whether it may be restaurants, shopping or the city," Finkel said.

Classes begin Tuesday for Finkel as she starts her journey in pursuit of a degree in communications. "I feel the teachers I had in high school, as well as my college counselor, provided me with great preparation for college," she said. "I went to Darien High School for two years and enjoyed my time there. I know I received a great education while attending."

Of all the places in town she may miss, Finkel named a few favorites, "Uncle's Deli has some of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I also like to shop at the Sport Shop, which is iconic to the town," she said. Her final summer in Darien was spent commuting into New York City for an internship at the World Entertainment News Network, a "celebrity gossip blog."

Her family is moving to Greenwich next week, but she'll be away at college in Maryland. "I will miss all of the people I know who live there," she said.
