On Wednesday nights, the popular spot holds classes in coffee preparation, teaching customers how best to brew a cup at home, what different brewing technology brings to a cup and learning the difference between high-quality and low-quality coffees.
“We equip people with the knowledge to choose for themselves what they like and don’t like in a cup of coffee,” said Kyle Bellinger, director of coffee for NEAT. “I love to see people experiment. It’s cool to see people get excited about their coffee.”
Classes are held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the shop and cost $10 to participate. They are limited to eight people per session, and Belliger said attendees often stay past 8:30 p.m. asking questions and sampling their work. See the shop’s website for more information.
Bellinger said teaching customers how to best brew a cup of joe at home has helped lead to an increase in business because the participants become advocates for NEAT, telling their friends and family about it.
“You can’t replace that coffee shop experience,” said Bellinger. “These classes only benefit the business because people get excited about sharing their new-found knowledge with their friends.”
