Special Olympics Torch Makes Its Way Through Danbury's Streets

DANBURY, Conn. – The City of Danbury's Police Department joined in the celebration of the start and the spirit of the Connecticut Special Olympics by hitting the streets for the Law Enforcement Torch Run on Friday, June 6.

The torch entered Danbury in the morning after a hand-off from the Brookfield Police Department on the town line on Federal Road.

The runners made their way down Federal Road to White Street, then to Main Street, and down to South Street. Danbury police officers handed it off to their brothers in the Bethel Police Department on the town line on South Street.

The whole run took less than an hour through the city of Danbury.

The Connecticut Special Olympic Summer Games are being held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven.

WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon, the honorary chairperson for Special Olympics Team Connecticut, praised the athletes for their dedication and called them an inspiration during a rally in Stamford as part of the torch run.

“The athletes of the Special Olympics, their courage, their dedication, their passion, the way that they encourage one another to compete and compete as a team is nothing short of inspiring and completely supports one of WWE’s key community service pillars of diversity and inclusion,” she said at the rally Friday.
