The series brings today’s most exciting musicians to Danbury to give concerts featuring modern masterworks, the classic favorites, and the music of living American composers in celebration of Charles Ives’s legacy.

The series debut at the Danbury Music Centre’s Marian Anderson Recital Hall features world-renowned percussion artist Simon Boyar. It begins at 7 p.m.

Boyar has been a featured guest on NPR’s All Things Considered and on PBS- NJTV’s State Of The Arts and as a soloist on with dozens of orchestras including The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, The American Symphony Orchestra, The Korean Symphony Orchestra, and many others. 

Boyar owns and operates the Simon Boyar School of Drums and Percussion in Buchanan, N.Y. At CMI, he will perform a concert of his own original solo music. Boyar has served as Director of The Juilliard Pre-College Percussion Department and currently serves on the percussion faculty at NYU Steinhardt.

On Thursday, Aug. 11 at 7 p.m., the music centre honors Danbury-native and famed American composer Charles Ives with the third-ever “Charles Ives and His Living Legacy” concert.
