FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Fairfield County residents can expect cool and cloudy weather on Tuesday ahead of thunderstorms and more rain over the coming days.

Tuesday is expected to be cloudy, with a high near 62, according to the National Weather Service. There is a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms tonight, mainly before 2 a.m. Otherwise the night will also be cloudy, with a steady temperature around 58.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop on Wednesday in advance of an approaching cold front. A few of these storms could produce strong wind gusts and hail. There is a 40 percent chance of showers, mainly after 2 p.m. The high will be near 71. Wednesday night will see a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 a.m., then a slight chance of showers. The low will be around 55.

Daytime temperatures will return to more seasonable levels on Thursday, when the high will be near 72. Thursday is expected to be mostly sunny. The night will be mostly clear, with a low around 54.

There is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Friday afternoon. Otherwise the day will be mostly sunny, with a high near 75. Friday night will see a 40 percent chance of showers with a low around 61.
